IMUMA: Imani, Upendo na Matumaini

Orphan and Vulnerable Children Centre

IMUMA: Imani, Upendo na Matumaini Orphan and Vulnerable Children Centre Imani, Upendo na Matumaini translates to Faith, Hope and Love. Shariff and Asha, a happily married couple in Bagamoyo, Tanzania noticed the desperate need of support for young people in their community. They opened their doors and are now supporting and caring for over 45 children. They are Reaching Beyond.

IMUMA is growing at a pace much quicker than anybody anticipated. The demand for support and care is overwhelming in the rural community named Nianjema (in the region of Bagamoyo). The non-profit organization’s mission is to provide a safe atmosphere for orphans and vulnerable children to grow, for education to be facilitated and for children to receive support, knowledge and training that can be used to eliminate poverty.

IMUMA has recently built housing space for children and classrooms for daily use. Unfortunately, they are still in need of more space for children and do not have paid teachers. IMUMA’s food and hygiene budget for a year totals under $1000. Many of children at IMUMA are suffering from malnourishment and are at high-risk for other diseases.

Student Reach is helping IMUMA by assisting them in developing into a centre where children can obtain basic education, enough food for a healthy lifestyle and a safe place to sleep. We allocate financial resources between micro sustainable development projects (Goat raising, etc.) and necessities (food, medical expenses, teachers, shelter, supplies, etc.). SRI also works with IMUMA on developing nutrient rich diets that can have an impact on the health of the children.

Projects supporting IMUMA can be unique; money can be donated for teacher costs, food, medical supplies, etc. or materials can be sent such as school supplies, books for a library, etc. When you or your group decides to donate money to IMUMA through Student Reach International, 96% of your donation goes directly to IMUMA.

When you decide to support IMUMA, we will tell you where the money is most needed and you can be involved with the decision making of what the donation supports.
