On October 16th, 2009, Mayor Halloran and Abid Virani will team up for a presentation at SJAM in the Waterloo Region. Mayor Halloran and Abid Virani will speak about their experiences in Lesotho during the summer of 2009, where both of them spent time in the district of Hlotse. This marks the first partnered event between the Waterloo Region, which has launched a $2.5 million goal for Bracelet of Hope, and Student Reach International, which has launched a $25 million goal across Canada from students using the Box of Hope. 

On October 16th, students are encouraged to sport their red and white beaded bracelets and/or purchase one for $5!

Abid ViraniStudent Reach International is pleased to announce that our Co-Founder Abid Virani will be among a distinguished selection of speakers at "Why Everything Must Change" (WEMC), a conference laying the "foundations for social justice."

Hosted by SoChange, WEMC 2009 will be held on October 23 and 24, 2009 at The Meeting House in Oakville, ON. WEMC is "an annual fall conference intended as a forum where participants learn about pressing social justice issues, discuss them with others, and are ultimately driven to be the change that they know the world needs."

Other speakers include Fatmire Feka, Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Founder of Kids Club for Peace, as well as Diane O'Reggio, President and CEO of Nelson Mandela's Children Fund Canada. For more information about WEMC 2009 and how you can be there, visit http://www.ychange.ca/.
