Waterloo's Bracelet of Hope campaign is launching a new look for its website at www.waterloohashope.com, designed & hosted by Student Reach International (SRI).

Since launching in January, Waterloo's $2.5 million campaign is well underway, with students at the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University leading the charge. The re-design of the website comes days before  Mayor Brenda Halloran is set to depart for Lesotho, Africa on a 2-week trip with Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik.

Upon arrival in Lesotho, Mayor Halloran and the Bracelet of Hope team will join a 6-member Student Reach International team already on the ground in Eshowe, Lesotho. Mayor Halloran will also be blogging on her trip at the Waterloo BOH Mayor's Blog.

SRI Director Jonah Hu, who sits on Waterloo Bracelet of Hope committee, says that "the website was relaunched to add new Bracelet of Hope branding and Web 2.0 elements such as Twitter and blogging." He notes that "Waterloo is a very tech savvy town, so this is just one more way we're engaging students & citizens from a very grassroots level."

Student Reach International is pleased to announce the "Reach Lesotho" program in partnership with the Upper Grand District School Board and Bracelet of Hope.

Reach Lesotho is a comprehensive leadership and academic program for Grade 10 and 11 students at Centennial C.V.I., Guelph C.V.I. and John F. Ross C.V.I. in Guelph. Selected students will participate in a number of academic and leadership activities, culminated by a three-week trip to Lesotho, Africa in the summer of 2011. In addition, the students will earn a Grade 12 University credit (IDC4U1) that can be used for university/college applications.

Applications to the "Reach Lesotho" program will be available from teacher advisors at each of the three participating high schools in September 2009.

In October of 2009, a short list of twenty-four students will be selected to participate in the Reach Lesotho leadership development camp run by SRI’s leadership sector called Stand Up. From the twenty-four students, twelve will be selected to participate in an eighteen-month academic program that concludes with a three-week visit to Africa. A video documentary will be developed through the experience and used as a marketing tool for the Bracelet of Hope Campaign.
