In Tanzania, we have been working simultaneously on many projects for IMUMA Organization. Fortunately, we have made great strides with our efforts. Today, the children at IMUMA are able to turn a tap handle, fill a glass of water and drink safely. By installing taps and a filter, SRI has made this possible. Check out three new blogs from Student Reach International members in Tanzania, Africa:
  • Nicole Malatesta, a Ryerson University student traveling with SRI this summer writes: "There are currently a million thoughts running through my mind, and it is quite a challenge to try and piece together all of my emotions. However when I pull apart the pieces of this amazing adventure, I am able to truly reflect on just how inspiring this experience has been. As soon as we stepped off of the plane in Tanzania I was struck with such an overwhelming feeling of happiness." Read more...

  • Abid Virani, our executive director, has been on the ground in Bagamoyo, Tanzania for over a month now, and logs his latest report on the redevelopment work at the IMUMA orphanage: "Working here in Bagamoyo has been full of challenges. The water project, although progressing everyday, is proving to be more challenging than anticipated. Whether it’s a leaking pipe, broken elbow or lack of power, obstacles present themselves at every chance. Still, every time we reconnect the system and water begins flowing through taps, the children jump excitedly and crowd around for a sip. Our motivation to overcome obstacles is found at each of those moments." Read more...

  • Meaghan Morris, a University of Ottawa student and a former SRI director writes: "Africa’s hitting hard today. Today I feel lost, broken, and for some reason the word heavy comes to mind. Up until now, I’ve been enthralled by the beauty of community and the culture. I’ve felt so blessed to have been welcomed and embraced by the all of my new friends." Read more...
