Student Reach International will initiate development planning in Bagamoyo, Tanzania this summer at the IMUMA Orphanage. Supporting nearly fifty children, IMUMA is currently unable to provide adequate education, shelter and food leaving the children vulnerable to living an impoverished future.
SRI is developing a long-term sustainable income plan for IMUMA so that the children are healthy, educated and well-fed. To assess the financial need of IMUMA, we will be conducting research through June and July of 2009. Pinky Langat will lead the development of a feeding plan for IMUMA, which involves conducting a nutritional study of the children and community at large. If funding permits, SRI will also be installing energy efficient lights and building a dining area this summer at the IMUMA Orphan and Vulnerable Child Centre. The team will be researching potential income opportunities in the Bagamoyo District that IMUMA could manage.
To fund the development plans for IMUMA, SRI is launching the IMUMA Project Campaign later this month. University of Guelph students Alicia Grant and Richelle Bird have developed a dogtag necklace campaign.
